The DANA playoff finals very rarely disappoint. Today was no exception. Today’s games featured the top four regular season finishers. First through fourth: Navy Blue Wrecking Crew, the Black Lobos, the Light Blue Blitz and the Royal Blue A Few Good Men. In the 8:30 game the Lobos bested the Blitz. Game #2 featured A Few Good Men vs the regular season champions Wrecking Crew with “The Men” prevailing in a very low-scoring game 11-9. The Championship game ended with A Few Good Men scoring 22 runs and the Lobos 17. Worthy of note is the number of runs allowed by the “The Men” during the regular season…a total of 284, more than any other Dana team gave up. “The Men” finished the regular season with 7 wins offset by 7 losses. They were 0-2 vs the Wrecking Crew and 1-1 vs the Lobos. It just shows to go you that anything can happen in Senior Softball!

Only one close game today when Light Blue edged White by one run in the final game of the day. Match-ups for next week are Light Blue versus Black at 8:30am followed by Royal Blue against Navy Blue. Championship game should start around noon. All games are nine innings. Party at Harbortown to follow after the final game. Free sliders for all!

The Black Knights won the post-season championship with decisive wins over the White Taz Devils 25-14 in the semifinal game, and a 21-16 win over Navy Blue Wrecking Crew in the championship game. In the semifinal game Kevin O’Reilly hit four home runs and the Black Knights turned four double plays, to help get the win. Norm Young kept it close for a while with two home runs for the Devils, but great pitching by Rich Tapia in a couple of critical situations prevented the Devils from catching the Knights. In the Championship game, Kevin O’Reilly hit two more home runs, Kurt Gritts went 5-5 with a home run and 6 RBI’s, and Rich Tapia pitched another good game and provided an offensive spark getting on base and running the bases. Kevin O’Reilly finished the day 8-8, with six HRs, two intentional walks, and 15 RBI’s, Lowell Waxman was 6-8 with several key RBI’s, Kurt Gritts went 7-8 with an HR, Billy Casteneda went 6-9, and Rich Tapia scored 12 runs in the two games. The Black Knights played good defense in both games and it was a real team effort to get the wins.

In the other semifinal game, Navy Blue and Grey played a very close game with the Wrecking Crew plating three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a walkoff one-run win. Nevertheless, Navy’s Blue amazing post season finishes came up one game short.
